away from the Major Medical Centers into Community Settings.
Medical Centers are redesigning themselves - acquiring community hospitals,
clinics, surgi-centers, nursing homes and doctor’s practices. In five years, the
great majority of UPMC’s business will be outpatient, and more than two-thirds
of its inpatient population will be located outside its Oakland Campus.
